So you finally pulled through and are now a proud owner of a webpage your own the real fun is just beginning. After you have settled comfortably in your web page address, it is now time you begin thinking about the analytics checking.

A good website is not that just looks good, a good website is one that not only looks good to the viewer, but is also bug-free and easy to use. But how can you know exactly what your clients want form your website in terms of services, ease of use and other things? That is what your website analytics are here for.

Most commonly available as a Google service, aptly named as Google analytics, the service provides you complete analytical data regarding how many visitors stumbled to your site, where in your site they visited and what if any bugs did they face.

Looking closely, the information is priceless. When you know exactly what people do on your site, you can know exactly what most people are interested in on your site, know what they could want from your site and what extra can you give them to increase their satisfaction level.

Of the numerous website tools available on the internet, Google analytics checking or the Google adsense checking is an ingenious way to ensure that your clients stay happy with your business. Since happy customers mean more customers, analytics checking is definitely something you should consider if you want better results with your online business.

You can even determine by yourself the custom report for analysis if you think that the default type is insufficient for your use, or you can compare keywords most relevant to your business, often referred by the tool itself after a brief analysis of what kind of people end up at your domain and make sure that more and more people come to your domain and more of them are satisfied with their destination.

Saying that the Dell 2230d monochrome laser printer is the best $199 (as of 11/12/09) unit we′ve tested isn′t saying much; none of the models we′ve seen at this price point (including the Samsung ML-1630 and the HP LaserJet P1505) have made our Top 10 chart. Within its class, however, the 2230d offers better speed and paper handling. On the downside, its design can be unfriendly, and its toner costs are high.

The 2230d offers a few more features than its low-cost competitors do. It lacks ethernet, but Dell bundles a Wi-Fi adapter to supplement the built-in USB and parallel ports. It′s the only low-cost model we′ve tested that offers automatic duplexing (two-sided printing). The main paper tray holds 250 sheets of legal-size paper; a second 250-sheet tray costs $100. A flip-out tray lets you feed single envelopes or other irregular-size media, with a rear exit slot for thicker pieces like cardstock.

Dell is also refreshingly spot-on in its speed claims for the 2230d. Dell says that the unit can print at speeds up to 35 pages per minute–and in our tests it got very close, reaching 33.9 ppm, an above-average speed compared with that of other monochrome lasers in our rankings. Print quality was predictable for this type of printer: No quibbles on the text quality, but graphics were murky and sometimes showed banding.

The 2330d′s control panel leaves a lot to be desired. The controls consist of five small, rectangular LEDs and two stacked buttons. Each control is identified by a symbol rather than a text label. You will need to consult the user guide to identify the controls and to decipher the dizzying array of flashing and solid light combinations on the LEDs. That′s a chore, too, as the guide lists over 20 pages of sequences.

What you save on the Dell 2230d′s purchase price, you will quickly spend on replacement toner. Dell bundles a 1000-page starter cartridge with the printer. A 3500-page replacement-program cartridge costs $111, or 3.2 cents per page. You have no high-yield option. While that′s the cheapest toner cost among the $199 monochrome lasers we′ve reviewed to date, it′s still higher than average for this category of printer. If you need to print in high volume, you′ll be better off paying a bit more up front for a model such as the Ricoh Aficio SP 3300DN; it cost $269 at review time and is nearly one cent cheaper per page to operate than the Dell 2230d.

The Dell 2330d succeeds in a modest way by providing good speed and paper handling for a low purchase price. Just be sure to keep the manual close by, and save up for the pricey toner replacements.

BitDefender Antivirus ($30 for a one-year, three-PC license) holds its own at dealing with malware, but its interface isn′t especially user-friendly. Overall the program earned fourth place in our roundup of stand-alone antivirus programs.

This Romanian-made software did well in traditional detection tests that put it up against a collection of known malware kept by AV-Test.org. BitDefender detected 99.66 percent of all samples in a huge cache of spyware, Trojan horses, worms, and the like. But several other apps did even better, so that showing was good enough only for fifth place.

BitDefender did much the same in heuristic tests that simulate detection of newer malware by using two-week old databases. Its 65.34 percent block rate in these tests was respectable, but again yielded a fifth-place finish. The app did better in other proactive protection tests that measure a program′s ability to block a baddie based solely on how it acts on a PC, blocking two-thirds of the brand-new test samples, earning it a tie for second place.

Presented with the task of disinfecting files, BitDefender disabled nine out of ten malware infections. By comparison, all but three programs in this roundup managed to remove every malware component we threw at them. And it languished in last place (along with G Data) when it cleaned up only seven out of ten active rootkits. It did clean up a greater percentage of the less-important files and system changes than most of the other security apps.

Despite some good features, BitDefender′s interface isn′t executed particularly well. For example, any security guru will tell you that keeping Windows up-to-date is essential for good security, and BitDefender can scan for missing updates. Unfortunately, it will display a critical warning if you happen to lack an optional package on its list–such as the Microsoft Base Smart Card Cryptographic Service Provider Package–even though it isn′t really necessary to protect your PC.

HP′s Pavilion P6130f desktop ($600, as of November 15, 2009) goes toe-to-toe against the Gateway DX4200-11 value PC, but loses out to the Gateway′s better design and stronger overall configuration. Elsewhere in the value PC category, similarly priced PCs–including one of HP′s own Pavilions–outperform the P6130F as well.

HP slips one of AMD′s older chips, the 2.4GHz Phenom X4 9750, inside the slick, black shell of this midsize tower system. That CPU is slightly more powerful than the Gateway DX4200-11′s 2.2GHz Phenom X4 9550 processor, but it falls short of the 2.6GHz Dual-Core E5300 found in the HP Pavilion A6710T desktop–a system that outperforms the P6130f for roughly 80 percent of its price. Rounding out the P6130F′s core components are 8GB of DDR2-800 memory and a single 750GB hard drive.

Don′t expect to do much gaming on the P6130F. At its most dialed-down settings (1024 by 768 resolution and normal quality), the system′s integrated nVidia GeForce 9100 chipset struggled to a barely playable frame rate of 22 frames per second in Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. To be fair, the HP A6710T managed only 25 fps on the same test at the same settings. The P6130f′s WorldBench 6 score of 88 is good for a value PC at its price, but the A6710T reaches a far more impressive score of 98.

The P6130f adopts the standard chassis design that HP has used for many of its Pavilion-series PCs recently. The case′s form-fitting covers for optical drives and front-panel connections give it an elegant, smooth front surface. The internal wiring job is somewhat inconveniently clumped, making the task of installing a new 5.25-inch device in the system′s free bay a bit more difficult.

The single free spot for an extra, vertically mounted hard drive is even harder to deal with because installing the drive requires you to use screws. The two free PCI Express x1 slots are suitable for a narrow range of devices; x4 slots would have increased your options. On the positive side, a free PCI Express x16 slot sensibly anticipates an upgrade to discrete graphics.

True to form, HP doesn′t load this inexpensive value PC with external connections. On the back, you get four USB ports, a single FireWire 400 port, a 10/100 ethernet port, integrated 7.1 surround sound, and an external coaxial S/PDIF connection. The P6130f′s front connections consist of two USB ports and a multiformat card reader.

A generic, corded, two-button mouse came with our review system. The system′s keyboard has a standard, uninspired layout featuring three additional buttons for volume controls.

For its price, HP′s Pavilion P6130f delivers surprisingly good performance and adequate upgradability. But you can find better builds (and performance) on less expensive PCs–including some from HP.

The Canon Color ImageClass MF8350Cdn color laser multifunction printer offers a tempting purchase price ($699 as of 12/09/2009) and some good features. Like most low-cost machines we′ve tested, however, it has trade-offs–including pricey black toner and uneven photo quality.

Paper handling is a strong suit. Automatic duplexing comes standard; even the higher-ranked (and cheaper) Brother MFC-9450CDN lacks that feature. The automatic document feeder (ADF) and multipurpose tray (MPT) both take up to 50 sheets, and the main tray takes up to 250. A second 250-sheet tray costs $199, according to Canon (some third-party prices we found were higher). Legal paper causes the main tray to jut out the front; Canon provides a partial dust cover. The 125-sheet output tray lurks, cavelike and dark, below the scanning unit.

The machine′s control panel could be better designed. The primary function buttons, such as Copy, Fax, and Scan, are easy to locate above the five-line monochrome LCD. The secondary buttons below are all labeled, but they look similar–and there are a lot of them. More grouping and color-coding would make things easier to find.

Speed and output quality varied widely in our tests. Printing plain text, the MF8350Cdn managed a middling rate of 11 pages per minute (ppm), but the quality was stellar. Printing photos or handling copies and scans was faster; the results, however, could be disappointing. Skin tones on color images looked pale and jaundiced; color depth and detail were lacking as well. Scanned photos looked dark and muddy, and scanned text appeared fuzzy.

Toner prices are a little high. At the time of this review, a 3400-page replacement black-ink cartridge cost $127, or a pricey 3.7 cents per page. The 2900-page cyan, magenta, and yellow cartridges cost $122 each, or a midrange 4.2 cents per color, per page. A page with all four colors would cost 16.4 cents. The unit ships with starter-size supplies (1200-page black and 1400-page color cartridges). Cartridges nestle into a tray that slides out from the printer′s innards. They′re not keyed, but an error message arises if you mislocate one of them.

I liked the supporting documentation. On-screen menu selections include animated instructions for many tasks. A printed Starter Guide and Basic Operations Guide cover most of what you need. The full, HTML-based guide–viewable from the included CD or downloadable from Canon′s Website–is thorough and well organized.

The Canon Color ImageClass MF8350Cdn has better paper handling and expandability than many similarly priced machines. Even with its various shortcomings, it′s still a worthy choice for a small office with moderate print volume and basic graphics needs.

–Susan Silvius

Sony′s remodeled PlayStation 3 (120GB) dropped a couple of dress sizes and $100 off the price of its predecessor, the original PlayStation 3. For $300, you can now have a first-class, BD-Live capable Blu-ray player (see our home theater review) with 1080p HDMI output, integrated Bluetooth and 802.11g, an upgradable 120GB hard drive, gigabit ethernet, 7.1 channel Dolby Digital audio support, and Sony′s monstrously powerful custom multiprocessing CPUs. Oh, and it plays PlayStation 3 games, too.

The most significant internal change is that switch from an 80GB hard drive to a 120GB unit. On its exterior, the PS3 (120GB) replaces the original version′s glossy black finish with a duller black matte finish, and it smoothes out its predecessor′s design angles. Fingerprints still show if your hands are oily, but far less than before. My hefting, shaking, and squeezing of the unit led me to conclude that it was just as solid as the original.

The PS3 (120GB)–aka the PlayStation 3 Slim–weighs 7 pounds and measures 11.4 by 11.4 by 2.6 inches. Those specs indicate that the new model is roughly 33 percent smaller and 36 percent lighter than the original; but because it′s a hair deeper, it will continue to occupy about as much space as a standard rack-style DVD or Blu-ray player.

Though the Slim retains most features from the original system, Sony has altered a few things. Instead of the original model′s four USB ports, the Slim settles for two–an unfortunate limitation when you try to play Guitar Hero or Rock Band with more than two wire-based peripherals (microphone, guitar, drums) or when you want to run an external hard drive (or three) while charging two controllers. A powered USB hub solves the problem, but at extra cost and at the loss of a power outlet.

In the box, Sony supplies the same peripherals that came with the original PS3: a composite A/V input and a DualShock 3 wireless controller with a mini-USB-to-standard-USB charge cable. The system′s power cable replaces the three-prong connector with an older two-prong plug similar to the connection on the back of a PlayStation 2. Regrettably, the PS3 (120GB), like the earlier PS3, doesn′t bundle an HDMI cable. You can choose to pay Sony′s exorbitant “official” HDMI cable price (around $40), or you can drop by an online reseller and find a functionally identical cable for $10 or less.

If you own a Sony Bravia-brand TV and plan to use HDMI, Sony touts a new sync feature that ostensibly lets you control the PS3 (120GB)′s XMB (cross media bar) interface with your TV remote. I tested this option on a Sony Bravia KDL-20B4050, which is supposed to support it, but I couldn′t get it to work. The TV indicated that it recognized the console in the HDMI setup (you enable the feature on both your TV and the PlayStation), but it refused to acknowledge my attempts to move the cursor around in the XMB interface itself. On the other hand, the PS3 (120GB) did power off automatically when the TV shut down, in keeping with the Bravia Sync′s System Standby feature. You can control movies with the wireless gamepad, but for dedicated button access to multimedia features, you′ll want Sony′s $25 remote. (If you own a Harmony universal remote, a $45 adapter from Logitech is available.)

The PS3 (120GB) maintains the original PS3′s backward compatibility with PlayStation 1 games, but like the original PS3 it won′t handle PlayStation 2 games (of which there are many)–a feature that Sony now says is off the table entirely. PlayStation buffs unwilling to retire their PS2 games will have to soldier on with both units occupying their A/V cabinets and taking up input space on the rear of their TVs.

Also absent is any option to install an alternative operating system like Linux. Most gamers and home theater buffs probably weren′t aware that the original PS3 could accommodate such OSs, however.

Like the original, the PS3 (120GB) can stand horizontally or vertically, though you′ll want the optional stand ($24) if you plan to go with a vertical orientation. The new model′s rounded casing and slight main-body overhang make it even easier to tip over than the PlayStation 2. When laid out flat, it takes up less room than its predecessor, but then it won′t fit comfortably next to an LCD TV on an average-size A/V stand.

Loading a Blu-ray game or video disc takes about 10 seconds from the instant the mechanism grips it to the moment the disc icon appears on the XMB–about the same as the original. Otherwise, Blu-ray playback remains unchanged from how it worked on previous iterations of the PlayStation 3.

The disc drive itself is whisper-quiet in action. I popped in Metal Gear Solid 4, ran a clean install, and couldn′t hear the sound of the drive spinning at all with my head tilted down and nearly flush against the exterior. The noise that the drive makes when loading and ejecting discs is definitely louder, however–and not just because everything else is so much quieter.

On our test unit, the fan emitted a barely audible hum, somewhere in the G-above-middle-C frequency range. I cued Metal Gear Solid 4′s introductory briefing–a surefire processor-cruncher–and in a silent room, the Slim was significantly quieter than my MacBook Air (with the latter′s fan spinning at moderate speeds). to the reason: Sony′s inclusion of a larger 95mm fan with 17 blades and a brushless DC motor allows the system to move more air at lower fan speeds and, therefore, with less machine noise.

Despite the drop in processor size from 65nm to 45nm and the consequent reduction in power consumption (from 110W to 73W, on average), the PS3 (120GB) feels warmer than the original PS3. For this slimmer model, Sony designed the custom plastic molding to route air away from the heatsink; thus the entire chassis tends to feel warm (though never hot) to the touch. Still, if you′re planning to run the PS3 (120GB) in close quarters with other warm electronic gear, you′ll want to rethink your setup.

As Blu-ray players go, the original PS3 was competitive at $400. At $300 with a slimmer profile and lower power consumption, the PS3 (120GB), when it debuted, was arguably the model to beat. But newer stand-alone players have raised the performance and image-quality standards of this category, and today the PS3 comes in at 3.5 stars as a Blu-ray Disc player, making it a good value for that purpose only if you also want to play PlayStation 3 games.

The streamlined and redesigned Asus Eee PC 1000HE takes no prisoners. While the previous Asus Eee PC 1000 offered a solid netbook, Acer′s Aspire One stole all the attention with its lean and incredibly affordable approach. With the latest incarnation of the Eee PC 1000, the “HE” might as well stand for “Holy Enhancement!” This model bears only a passing resemblance to last year′s Eee PC, and improves upon just about everything from the keyboard to the CPU. Better yet, in addition to losing some unsightly girth, Asus also trimmed the price to $400.

Let′s take a quick tour around the machine to kick this off. The first, most obvious thing you′ll spot is the cut-out keyboard. Just like you′d find on an Apple MacBook Air or on Sony VAIO laptops, the keys poke through the plastic, creating a wide gap between buttons. In that respect, this feels and looks great, and is generally more usable. The trackpad is just spacious enough — I particularly like its metal framing and the few multitouch functions incorporated into the design. However, I found the pad slightly twitchy to control. No deal-breaker, but I noticed.

You also get a couple handy shortcut buttons hovering along the top of the unit. They do everything from give the CPU a speed boost (more on that below) and user-definable shortcuts to a screen resolution adapter. That is, you can view 1024-by-768 resolutions even though the native resolution of the 1000HE is 1024 by 600 — it′s a special compression mode that Lenovo employs in the IdeaPad S10 as well, and represents a convenience given that some applications default to a 1024-by-768-pixel resolution and won′t work otherwise.

This unit′s 10.1-inch backlit LED display is bright and capable of good color reproduction; its glossy coating helps the image pop a little more than you usually see on netbooks. However, the highly polished bezel that keeps the screen in place can get a little distracting at times.

A number of aerodynamic nips and tucks make this 10.3-by-7.4-by-1.4-inch netbook just a hair thinner than the older, clunkier Eee PC 1000 we reviewed last year. It′s also a little on the “heavy” side for a netbook, weighing 3.2 pounds. That′s the price of strapping an 8700mAH battery to the bottom of this thing; Asus promises that the 1000HE will deliver 9.5 hours of performance (but we got a solid seven hours, nine minutes in our tests). In short, netbooks in this generation are finally packing the battery power required for marathon computing sessions.

Speaking of performance, the Asus Eee PC 1000HE sports Intel′s 1.66-GHz Atom N280 CPU. For the sake of comparison, most of the netbooks that came out late last year used the N270 CPU, which runs at a lower frequency (1.6-GHz) and a slower frontside bus speed (533MHz as compared with 667 MHz in the N280). The difference, however, was minimal. Our test unit got a 35 in WorldBench: an average score for what you′ll find in netbooks.

The Asus comes with 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard disk drive, and 802.11b/g/n /Bluetooth wireless. Around the perimeter of chassis lies a fairly standard set of three USB 2.0 inputs.

The audio, as on the Eee PC 1000, sounds surprisingly strong for its size. But it lacks a good subwoofer, so don′t expect to rock a house party with this thing. Other notable features thrown into the mix: InterVideo WinDVD (which seems to be a little bit of overkill, I′d recommend you try out KMPlayer), and 18 months of 10GB of free online storage.

In the end, this is a fairly solid — and sizable — jump over what′s come out just a few months earlier. In fact, I′d dare say that amongst the netbook pack, this is one of my current favorites and something that I′d highly recommend that you check out. Considering that its selling in some places for as little as $380, you could do worse.

Part of the allure of the $479 Lenovo 3000 H210 comes from its use of a 2.5-GHz Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 processor. Many competitors opt for a cheaper AMD CPU, and the difference certainly shows in the performance. The H210 also comes with 4GB of DDR2-667 RAM, even though Lenovo opts for the 32-bit version of Windows Vista Home Premium for the operating system; it′s a curious oversight, given that the 32-bit Vista can′t handle the entire 4GB of memory due to its address-space allocations. On the storage front, a single 500GB Western Digital hard drive gives you a good amount of room for the kind of work you′ll be doing on this PC.

There′s no way the integrated Intel GMA 3100 graphics chip can offer playable frame rates for anything but the most basic of games (we′re talking Minesweeper). The system refused to run our Unreal Tournament 3 benchmark in any capacity, and offered a paltry 15 frames per second in Far Cry at 1280 by 1024 resolution, with no antialiasing; normally we run the test with antialiasing on, but the H210 would have none of that. On the plus side, the system′s WorldBench 6 score of 99 represents an above-average performance for the value PCs we′ve tested. It′s a great score for a system of this price, beating out the eMachines ET1161-03, which is $80 cheaper, by a good 20 points.

Lenovo tosses a generic two-button mouse and a dull keyboard into the H210′s package, but basic peripherals are common with inexpensive systems. A total of six USB ports, in addition to a media card reader on the front of the machine, is about as fancy as the H210 gets. It has no FireWire, no eSATA, and no integrated surround sound–a few connections that we love seeing on systems of all shapes and sizes.

Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but the asymmetrical arrangement of the H210′s front ports isn′t pleasing to anyone′s eye, nor is it helped by the fact that the area is set off with a secondary black panel. The bay for the H210′s DVD read/write optical drive looks as if it were carved in as an afterthought. A stealth cover of some sort would do wonders to pretty up the front of this PC.

The H210′s internal expandability is average at best. It offers no room to install any additional 5.25-inch devices, so you′re stuck with what it gives you unless you want to outright replace the optical drive. What′s more, the case supplies only enough space for you to add one more hard drive, which you attach by physically screwing the drive onto the side of the chassis. A single PCI Express x16 slot, as well as two PCI Express x1 slots and one PCI slot, sits open. At least you have a little room to work with, which is more than what we can say for some value PCs.

The Lenovo 3000 H210 is one of the better sub-$500 value PCs we′ve seen recently. But while it′s a great option for general performance, the system sputters and stalls the minute you try to fire up games, whether they′re current-generation hits or five-year-old classics.

The Linksys by Cisco Media Hub 410 1TB easily offers the friendliest media-serving Web interface of the NAS boxes we recently evaluated. It′s the only unit aside from Synology′s DS209+ and the HP MediaSmart that lets you play and view media on your PC via the Web-based configuration interface; however, it trumps its rivals with its ability to play video as well as audio files and photos. The video you′ll see is reduced considerably in size, but at least you can preview it before downloading it to your local machine.

Firefox users will need to install the Windows Media Player 11 plug-in to play video and music; with Firefox, however, we were able to play only video and MP3 audio files, and not WMA audio tracks.

The dual-bay Media Hub comes with one drive that can be configured as either RAID 1 or JBOD. This unit is a single 1TB drive; you can use the additional bay to install a second drive to the unit. It also has CompactFlash, Secure Digital, and Memory Stick card slots up front, making this model especially enticing to digital photographers in need of network backup. A built-in color LCD makes it easy to navigate the Media Hub′s functions directly from the front panel. You cannot set up the Media Hub from a Mac, but the Media Hub will work with Macs on your network, since it supports Apple Bonjour.

Cisco also provides a dedicated Web site for accessing your media from anywhere you can surf the Internet; however, this service is free only for the first year. The default password when you enable and configure this feature is “admin”–one of the first passwords any hacker will try, so change it first thing. You can also expose the NAS box by the usual means of port forwarding from your router.

Unfortunately, this model was one of the slowest we′ve seen at our data transfer tests. In the PC World Test Center, this model required 404 seconds to copy 3GB of files and folders; and it took 404 seconds to search through 12GB of data.

The Media Hub was also the only unit on which we didn′t experience any problems when streaming high-definition 1080p video across a 10/100 wired ethernet connection. Cisco says the box can handle up to three high-def streams simultaneously. All in all, the Media Hub is one slick media-serving machine–the best of the lot for its media features and ease of use.
